Katie Thomas, Floor Manager
Katie loves working with people and helping them increase their overall well-being, through connecting with self and others. She is passionate about living a healthy life style and enjoys educating and challenging others to find purpose and meaning in their life.
Katie graduated from the University of Utah with an emphasis in Recreational Therapy and minor in Disability Studies. She has her Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) state license and is nationally certified as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Katie is currently in graduate school studying to become a Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
Her clinical training includes an internship working as a core member of a multidisciplinary team at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute where she learned and taught DBT skills, group therapy, family therapy and experiential therapy and facilitated groups on the ropes course. Katie has experience working with adults in substance abuse treatment facilities as the director of recreation therapy and program manager. Her goal was to help others acquire the skills and desire to practice healthy behaviors. This included guiding residents in daily physical activity, helping residents manage emotions and learn how to enjoy a sober life-style.
Additional community exposure includes two internships in Africa. One, being a humanitarian mission trip traveling around East Africa and working in rural villages. The other, making contacts within Ghana Health Services for the University of Utah Public Health Department, teaching public health at local schools and helping set up medical clinics.
When Katie is not working, you will find her being active outdoors with her husband, family and friends. Her interests include skiing, yoga, hiking, mountain biking, traveling and eating sweet treats.
